Become a Security intern at Apex. You will work closely with the IT Support Team, System Admins, and business teams to protect products and services for customers of Apex Clearing's suite of financial back office solutions. We partner with some of the industry's hottest next-generation stock trading products. This is an great opportunity for a technical intern to join a team focused on increasing security around Apex’s software and services platform.

We are currently looking for a security intern to join our security team in Dallas, TX. The intern must be able to commit to a 12 week full-time (40hrs/week) internship during Summer 2022.

What you’ll do all day:

  • We have several initiatives currently underway. Let's establish your areas of interest and define a challenging but attainable project deliverable for your internship.

Additional security operations responsibilities could include: 

  • Maintain and monitor security-related infrastructure and applications, such as intrusion detection/prevention systems, EDR systems, firewalls, SIEM, and vulnerability scanners
  • Monitor ticket and event queues, triaging and classifying events, closing out tickets, escalating potential incidents
  • Partner with the Security Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) team to evaluate vendor assurance due diligence questionnaires to identify areas of concern
  • Create automated security auditing tooling and infrastructure related to the above

The skills you’ll need to succeed:

  • Be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program in Computer Science or other related field graduating in 2023. Junior or senior standing preferred.
  • Have experience with Bash, Python or other scripting language; Ability or desire to write automation for security tooling
  • Understanding or familiarity with some of the following security concepts (system administration, encryption, network security, application security)
  • Be able to commit to a 12 week full-time (40hrs/week) internship during Summer 2022
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
  • Effective inter-personal, verbal, and written communication skills

Preferred skills:

  • Have a real passion for the security field, as demonstrated by previous internships, work experience, security related clubs or organizations, personal projects, or publications
  • Familiarity with Security concepts
  • Understanding of web applications
  • Either previous knowledge in financial markets or a strong interest in learning
